Success Spotlight: Charles Finds Success at Verizon

For Charles “Chuck” of New Ulm, Minnesota, finding meaningful employment was a journey filled with challenges, perseverance, and determination. Today, Chuck is thriving in his role as a Sales Representative at Verizon in Mankato, where he has become a valued member of the team.

Chuck began working at Verizon in May 2026. His responsibilities include customer service, technical support, and helping customers find the right phone services, home internet plans, and cellular devices to meet their needs.

Before joining Verizon, Chuck faced several obstacles during his employment search, including personal and family health challenges, financial difficulties, and relocating from Sleepy Eye to New Ulm. After more than a year of submitting applications and attending interviews without securing a position, he began to feel discouraged.

That changed when he connected with MRCI.

“I have just tried to stay positive throughout getting my job at Verizon. For over a year, I had gone through applications and interviews without any gain. When I started to doubt a lot. That is when I met Sandy and MRCI. They really got me off to a brighter side and became more positive,” Chuck shared.

Through MRCI's Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program and Bridge on Center, Chuck received assistance preparing for employment and navigating the job search process. MRCI staff also helped him prepare for his first day of work and continued providing encouragement and support as he settled into his new position.

“MRCI has been amazing. They are very positive with ideas, helped get things together before my first day of work by helping prepare for the right attire for the company’s dress code. The thing I liked best was the constant check ins to make sure things are going good and to make sure I’m on track with what my goals have been and will be,” Chuck said.

His hard work and positive attitude have not gone unnoticed. Chuck's supervisor praised the impact he has made since joining the Verizon team.

“Chuck brings an incredible sense of camaraderie, authenticity, and genuine care to our team. His presence has helped strengthen our culture and create an environment where people feel supported, valued, and connected,” his supervisor shared.

MRCI employment staff have also witnessed Chuck's determination firsthand.

“Charles is willing to go above and beyond to reach all his goals. Charles had significant barriers during his job search/job support but has overcome each one. He is truly doing amazing! I am happy to have been a part of his job search journey to see him grow into the career path goals.”

Chuck is already looking toward the future. He plans to take advantage of Verizon's educational reimbursement opportunities to pursue college coursework, continue developing his skills, and work toward advancing within the company.

Chuck's story is a reminder that perseverance, a positive attitude, and the right support can open doors to meaningful opportunities. MRCI is proud to have been part of his employment journey and looks forward to seeing all that he accomplishes.
